The Most Important “Room” in Your Home: Transforming Your Garden Simply

There are many reasons we should improve our garden, whether it is making the most of our home’s kerb appeal or turning the space into something a bit more habitable during the summer, but improving the garden usually is a very long and labored task. The garden is, in many ways, the most important room in your home. And if you are looking to transform your garden into a space that makes you proud, but you don't have all the time in the world, what are the things that you should consider?

Improving Your Trees and Shrubs
If you do not have access to a tree company to chop down your trees for you, you can prune your trees and shrubs to create a whole new look. You can create a whole new garden by giving your space a “haircut.” You can take advantage of what a tree offers and transform the space accordingly. For example, if you find a tree is taking up too much room, you can chop it down, and use the stump as a focal point for a new seating area.

Installing Boundaries
When you are reconfiguring your space, are the garden boundaries where you want them? The best thing you can do is look at your garden from the inside of your home and see if it suits your aesthetics. Boundaries come in many different shapes and forms, and if you choose a boundary like a fence, this can be a little on the unpleasant side. Instead, try to evoke a bit more style or rustic sensibilities by installing shrubs, but also using flowers as barriers. You can also use a charring technique on your boundaries. For example, you can make a lovely finish on a timber fence by using a blowtorch and a strong wire brush.

Garden Pots
A very rustic, yet cheap way to create a rustic and simple theme for your garden. Plant pots need space and water to grow but require minimal effort to maintain. The great thing that you can do is to incorporate a wide variety of styles by using different plant pots. You could go for terracotta, steel, or even wooden ones. But if you are planning on installing large garden pots, think very carefully about where they will go, because once they are filled, they can be very difficult to move around.

Bringing More Wildlife Into the Space
If your garden is a natural draw for birds and animals and insects, you could encourage this by adding a bird feeder or installing a hedge to attract thrushes. You can also build a pond to attract dragonflies and newts. In general, adding more water features can truly reinvigorate a garden space. The great thing about a water feature is that it can dictate how your garden feels.

When we don't have the time to change our garden completely, we have got to go for the little things that provide inspiration, focal points, and a little bit of style.
